Definition Programs that provide information and guidance for families about the tax credits that are available in a number of states which are intended to provide financial relief for low-income parents and their children. Many states offer their own versions of the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit and Child and Dependent Care Credit to complement the federal credits. Children may need to have a Social Security number for families to be eligible to receive state child tax credits and other eligibility criteria may apply.
