Definition Programs that provide a hotline or other mechanisms that people can use to report identity theft that occurs when someone steals or uses an individual's personal information (e.g., their name, Social Security number, or Medicare number), to submit fraudulent claims to Medicare and other health insurers without their authorization. Medical identity theft can disrupt the victim's medical care, and wastes taxpayer dollars.
