Definition Medical examinations conducted by Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) designated civil surgeons of all individuals seeking entry into or residency in the United States. Included are a general physical examination, a tuberculin skin test (for all persons age two and older), blood tests for HIV and syphilis, and routine immunizations such as chickenpox (varicella), MMR (measles, mumps and rubella), and tetanus-diphtheria (Td). A pediatric examination of children age 14 and younger requires a physical examination, a TB skin test and a review and update of routine pediatric immunizations, but no blood tests.
