Definition Programs that utilize essential plant oils and essences (i.e., concentrated extracts of flowers, herbs, grasses, shrubs and trees) which are massaged into the skin, inhaled or placed in baths to promote relaxation and a general sense of well-being, ease the discomforts of pregnancy and childbirth, stimulate the immune system and treat physical and psychological problems such as stress, headaches, indigestion, colds, premenstrual syndrome, bites and stings. Aromatherapy may be used in conjunction with other holistic treatments including massage therapy, acupuncture, reflexology, herbal medicine and chiropractic.
