Definition | Programs that provide organized opportunities for individuals to pursue their interest in collecting drawings, paintings, photographs, sculpture, stained glass, porcelain, textiles, graphics, weavings and other types of art, often through the medium of a club or society which is under the leadership of people who are knowledgeable in the subject. Activities may include sharing information about art, its history, criteria for value and current prices; opportunities for members to show pieces from their own collections; and chances for members to visit galleries or auctions where the art form in which they have an interest is being exhibited and sold. Included are Internet-based virtual clubs, WebRings devoted to the subject and clubs where members meet face-to-face. |
