Term Eating Disorders Screening
Code RP-5000.5000-200
Definition Programs that offer simple tests for people who have episodes of binge eating followed by purging, dissatisfaction with their body shape and size and/or intense fears of weight gain and want to learn more about anorexia, bulimia and other eating disorders and ways of coping with their symptoms. Individuals generally have an opportunity to see a film and/or hear a talk about the causes, symptoms and treatment of eating disorders; complete a screening questionnaire; and talk with a mental health professional about the results. People who test positively are encouraged to seek further evaluation and, potentially, treatment. Most eating disorders screenings are confidential and available at no cost. Eating disorders screenings may also be available by telephone or on-line.
