Definition Programs that help nonprofit organizations plan, implement and effectively maintain a system which provides for the storage and retrieval of information that supports the delivery of their programs and services. Included are assistance in the selection of a format appropriate to the organization's needs; establishment of inclusion/exclusion criteria; development of specifications for the content, structure, indexing and cross-referencing of database entries; design of questionnaires to acquire information for the database; development of strategies to verify the accuracy of database information; and formulation of procedures for ensuring that information is updated and the database maintained on a regular basis. Included are programs that help nonprofit associations develop and maintain databases that contain financial information submitted to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) via Form 990 that are made available to scholars who want to conduct research on the nonprofit sector.
