Definition Programs that conduct research which focuses on the origin, development and operation of political systems and emerging issues relating to matters of public policy, governance and leadership. Research may relate to a wide range of subjects including international relations, the institutions and political life of nations, the politics of small towns or a major metropolis and the decisions of the judiciary. Studying topics such as public opinion, political decision making, ideology and public policy, political scientists analyze the structure and operation of governments as well as various political entities. Research methodologies might include public opinion surveys, analysis of election results, analysis of public documents or interviews with public officials.
