Definition A new respiratory illness caused by the coronavirus first identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China in 2019 and which likely originally emerged from an animal source but now seems to be spreading from person-to-person. Symptoms include mild to severe respiratory illness with fever, cough and difficulty breathing. Diagnostic testing in the U.S. can only be conducted at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
