Definition Programs that teach individuals to make maximum use of their residual hearing through amplification (hearing aids or cochlear implants) and to speak, but do not encourage speech (lip) reading. The method emphasizes exclusive use of auditory skills through one-to-one teaching. It excludes the use of sign language while emphasizing the importance of placing children who receive the service in the regular classroom as soon as possible.
